EUCALYPTUS IN TYPHOID
The following observation by William WhltU, M.D., Physician to the Belfast Royal Hospital, etc, on the value of eootlyptus oil la typhoid fever, will be of general Interest at the present time :— " Eucalyptus oil Is a powerful antiseptic, destroying minute oiganismn* . . It la given In feverish septlo conditions whore quinine Is Indicated. Keateven, who baa employed the oil In 220 oaiei or! typhoid faver, m 10 minim doses, only lost four. He found it produce a steady .redaction of the foroo and freqaenoy of the palop, a steady fall of the temperature, with great Improvement m the dry tongue •nd burning skin. He gave the follow* ing : — Oleleuotlyptuß, mln. 80; spk. ohloroforral, drma. 4 ; apt, ammonia* arom., drms 4 ; glycerin!, drms. 4. ; muollaglnle, oz. $; aqottlad, ozj. 8. Make a mixture of which a dose fot aa adult Is two tableßpoonfnls every fourth i hour." Thanking you for giving this pablfoHy In your oolumus. — I am, etc, prescrlptioo reads : — Oil of enoalyptus, 80 drops) spirits of chloroform, 4 drachms ; aromatlo spirits of ammonia, 4 draobnn; glycerine, 4 drachms; mucilage, £oz t water Boz ; mix two fcablespoonfult every fourth hour.
