THE KUROW RUNS
(" Oamtru Mai!,") The resole of the ballot for the seatlons at Kurovr proves that there (a an eagar acd anlvereal demand for land In b'z>s that are suitable to men cf small means. Tne fact that there were 120 applicants for 15 aeotloDß of the last of the Karow rans, though the land is of inferior quality, wlp show beyond dispute that the Government, In abstaining from rendering certain of the runs available for FetOement en the plea that the outcry for land was not genuine, have been guilty of a diaoredtUblo aabterfugo, m order to spare their friends, the runholdors. It is probable that the ommisslon to advertise the Kurovr sections In the looul papers was intended to so limit the number of applications for the land as to provide ooma justification for their profession tbat n^oody vrauted land, Bat If this were the Governments design they have boon checkmated. So keen is the anxiety of a large nnmbor of persons to obtain land that it would hove been imposalb!e to keep them In the dark m regard to the Kurow sale. Tha public have watohed the Government's manoeuvring with disgust and not a few of them feel that their worst fe^re m regard to the Otekaike, Kugged Ridges, and other similar transactions, were juafcifled. But what will the Government do for the 106 applioanfcs whose craving fo? a foothold on the soil ia uosatieaed ? Will they still pursue their policy of bluff, and ) wriggle out of their arrangements m regard to St rtion Peak and other areas that men anxious to setie would -gladly aocept, whether they b 4 bad or good ?
