LONGBEACH ROAD DISTRICT

The monthly meeting of the Longbeaoh Road Board waa held on Monday. Present — Messrs J. Grigg (ohairman), J. Shearer, T. Taylor, E. Horsey, and A. Wilson. CORRESPONDENCE. Lattera were road — From the Property Tax Commissioners forwarding oopy of valuation roll for triennial period, oommenoing April Ist, 1889.' — From Aehburton County Oounoil acknowledging reoeipt of Board's letter re California Thißtle, stating that the Oounoil approved of the Board's resolution, and will aot in the manner suggested* SURVEYORS' REPORT. The Surveyor's report was read as follows : 1. 3outh Road.— We have made a further inspection of this road, and find that to make a good job the whole length will have to bo reformed and clitob.es made along the sides of tha. road to take the water into the natural courses, but a paßßable traok oould be made along the centre of the road by outting thetussooks on the orown and filling in the hollow places, but this would only be a temporary job, but we would not reoommend that very muoh bp done till the dry weather aets in. The fords, however, might be attended to at onoo.

2. Waterloo New Boad. — The contractor for making ford and widening drain on this road has completed the work. The shingling near Ashton has also been oompleted. 3. Ohatmoss Road,— The formation and re-formation of part of thiß Road haß been oompleted. 4. Road to Mouth of River. — We have inspected the road to the Beaoh with Messrs Taylor and Shearer and fixed upon the mode of forming the traok. Tenders have been oalled for the work an:>- v will be laid before you to-day. Clause I—As1 — As some doubt existed as to whether a road has to be laid out on the south-east side of the Railway Reserve, and whether the Board was justified in spending < money on tb9 road, it was derided to leave the matter of improving it over till enquiries oould bo nude. The remainder of the report was adopted. FORDS AT WATERTON. Mr Moses interviewed the Board with reference to a |ford that requires some metal at Waterton, and also asked that a orossing be made over the drain to give aocess to the blaoksmith's shop. The Surveyors were instructed to have the neoefsary work done. CULVERT, LONGBEACH ROAD. It was resolved to take up a culvert in the Longbeaoh road and substitute a ford. FORD, GRAHASI's ROAD. * It was resolved to put a foot bridge over oreek in Graham's Road, near Mr Griffiths', and to ask the proprietor of the land below to put a swing Rate in the fenoe, DRAINAGE, GRAHAM'S ROAD, The Surveyors were instructed to report on the drainage of Graham's Road near Cairns'. RATES. It was resolved to strike a rate of three fatthiogs in the £ on the ratable property in the distriot for the year ending March 31at, 1890, payable in one sum on the 16th Sept. RETIREMENT, The members drew lota to ascertain whioh of their number should retire in aooordanoe with the Road Boards Aot, and the lots fell upon Messrs Wilson and Horsey. ACCOUNTS.
