B!acklock, the United S'.ahs Vice-Consul at Apia, has presented Mataafa with a gold watch and chain I &n'J olher ai tides as an expression of gratitude on the part of the States for the help rendered to American sailors during the great storm. It is rumored that the British Consul and Deputy Commissioner m Samoa will shortly be removed. Mataafa's authority is now re pected and obeyed, and borh parties are buii'.y cn^a^ed pl?n : n^ food.
