In i paper read some timesgo before th e Scottish Metropolitan Veterinary Association m Edinburgh, on " The application of salt to land as ■ preventative of blood and para* sitio diseases," Mr Thompson, M.8.0.V.8., detailed tbe results of his extended pro* essional experience m the use of salt applied to pasturage m the following diseases v— Had 'Water, splenic apoplexy, diarrhoea m calves, rheumatism m oattle, and blaokleg or rot, or ''liver flake" m sheep. Mr Thompson's mode of applying the salt is to dress the pasture with it at the rate of 6owt to the acre, and to repeat this every alternate year. In the ease of liver flake, Mr Thompson cited instances m his praotioe of land — on lime*' stone formation — on whioh sheep oould not be kept m oonsequenoe of losses from fluke ; but whioh land, from the application of crushed rook salt as above described, is now carrying high-class Lincoln Ehesp, and flake is entirely unknown. His experience was similar m rsspeot to the other diseases . named.
