The statement of claim m the action brought by Mr William O'Brien M.P., against the VJarquisof Salisbury, which we learned by cable a day or two ago has been decided m favor of His Lordship, was as follows ; — " (ij The plain iff is a member of Parliament for the North-east division of the County of Cork Ireland ; (2) on the 30th of September the plaintiff made a speech at a political meeting at Ballyncale, near Clonmel, m the county of Tipperary, m Ireland. (3) O n the 19th of March, 1889, at Watf jrd m the county of Hertford, the defendant addressing a political meeting, falsely and maliciously spoke and published of the plaintiff the. words followine. that is to say :-« Mr O'Brien (meaning Vhe plaintiff), m language not so, crude as I h»»e used, but perfectly distinct, urged upon all those who heard him* (meaning thereby all those who heard him at Ballyneale on the occasion aforesaid) • that men who took unlet farms should be treated as they have been treated for the last ten years m the locality m which he s P°*e— that is to say they should be murdered, robbed, the cattle shot and ill-treated, their farms devastated,' meaning thereby that the plantiff had wickedly and unlawfnlly.soliciled and incited those who heard him 1 to murder and rob the men who took unlet farms and to shoot and ill- treat their cattle and devastate 1 heir farms; (4) m consequtuce of tee defend mt's said words tha plaintiff ha been greatly prejudiced and injured m his reputation, and he claims dauagas.
