ASHBURTON COUNTY HUNT CLUB.

The hounds met for tho second time this season at Elgin bridge on Tuesday, 9th July. The attendance was very good. Two paddooks were drawn blank, but puss was at last found on the property of Mr Robert Molntyre and made towards the Seafiald road where Bhe turned and took a line across Mr Hudson's paddooka m the direotion of his house and was lost on the road. Mr Saunders oast m all directions without euooess. The paoe was fast up to this, a distanoe of two and a-half miles. The next hare was found m a pad* dook adjoining the road, and coming out through the gate way went right through horseß and vehioles m the direotion of Ashburton and turned on to Mr Lamb's property near Smith's gardens where she was also lost on the banks of the mill oreek, aoeat f ttiling altogether when pusa seemed just exhausted. The hounds showed their paoe here for about three miles, the riders having to keep their horses going to keep up with them. The third hare got up near Mr John Ooohrane's house and took the oreek, giving a oiroular run over Borne very stiff and ugly oountry full of wire, and spills were the order of the day. No serious aaoidents, however, took plaoe. Fuss was again lost after a long run, but exoept for a kill a good afternoon's sport was obtained. The btunds met at Windermere on Wednegday last, 17th mat, by kind invitation of Mr Harry Wright who did his utmost to entertain his numerous visitors, After partaking of a nioe lunob, the hounds threw off m a large paddook near Ohatmoss, and almost immediately found puss near the plantations, to whioh Bhe kept for some time. The adjoining paddooka were full of hares, but by keeping the pack together they drove one aoross the road when it took to the Windermere plantations, whioh were not so full, and the hounds pushed her through and out into the large paddooka adjoining, but here, instead of gorse fences, bare wire waß the only Bort to be seen. The followers had no option m the matter but to stay, or jump them, whioh the larger portion did several times before puss was killed m the open after a spin of about thirty minutes, soent holding remarkably well. Another hare was soon sent going aoross the railway line into very rough wire oountry, but most of the equestrians out meant going and did so, whatever oamein the way^ Hares were very numerous, and at least five were Been going at one time. The paok, however, oould not have changed more than orlce, for they ran into their game juat under the hour ,on the railway reserve after some really fast going, all being well satisfied with the way the paok worked and the sport shown.
