THE MASONIC ONION

About ISO members attended the adjourned meeting of the Qtago branoh of the Masom'o Union, which took plaoe m the Freemaaona' Hall, |>unedin, pn Monday nightf Muoh interest has been ezoited amongst members of the order throughout the qolony since the Union was first suggested, and although a large majority of lodges are m favor of a. Grand Lodge of New Zealand, yet from a membership point q{ view the minority is by nq rn^aqs a small one. From the arguments |or and against the new Oonstitntion It is apparent that the idea is. rather premature, the brethren not being of that unanimity necessary to make the establishment of a Grand Lodge a suooess. After a deal of disoUßsion the following motions proposed by Bro Sir B. Stout were carried :— " That m the , opinion of this meeting, before any delegates are appointed to oonsider the propriety of establishing a Grand. Lodge m New Zealand, the basis of the proposed Grand L,odge Bhould be published and fully* discussed by the brethren.'' A Committee was appointed to frame a basis of union for the proposed Qrand. Jjodge, and to report to another meeting to be convened by Bro Sydney (fames, and it w.as resolved that the Wellington Sxeoutive be Invited to submit their proposed basis. Rro. Jeffrey was appointed treasurer.—" Star."
