SHIPPING CASE.
London, July 15 The Supreme Court, by a majority of two to one, has dismissed the appeal m the case of the Mogul Steamship Company against McGregor. The Right Hon. Lord Bsher, Master of the Rolls, m his judgment ruled that every trader was entitled to the free course of trade. The Shipping Ring, he con--1 tended, was guilty of acts beyond the limits of fair competition, and were liable for conspiracy and damages, Justice Sir Charles Synge Bowen held , ihat the Ring had only pushed com- ; petition to the bitter end. CorapetitioD, however severe, if not attended ; with dishonesty and intimidation, could give rise to no cause of action. In his L -judgment^ Sir .Edward Ery said, a mere ; competition for the purposes of gain, if without actual malice, was not actionable, even if it was ruinous to a rival. The plaintiffs intimated their intention of appealing against the decision.
