A SWEEPING INDICTMENT.

Mr Wise, formerly Attorney-General, New Smth Wales, writing on Australian politics, makes some severe remarks on colonial Irishmen. After stating that corruption is unknown among colonial politicians, he proceeds to say that members of Parliament who make themselves conspicuous by disorderly conduct are generally Irish, or represent Irish constituencies. The Irish vote is cast m New South Wales for protection, m Victoria for publicans, m Queensland for Nationalism, but m all cases it is always against the Government. The object of the Roman Catholic priest* hood, he alleges, is to obtain the control of the public schools; the object of the laity is to grab the pnblic offices. Five-sixths of the billet hunters are Irish. Mr Wise also quotes the re* marks of the Melbourne " Age " on the political organisation of the Catholic Church.
