ACCIDENT TO A VESSEL.
MxLßOxmmi, Jane 24. The ship loianthe which ran into and sank the ship Cape Verde last evening, was m charge of a pilot at the time of the occurrence. The lolanthe struck the Cape Verde between the main and mizzen. masts and cut into her as far as the after hatch. The Cape Verde sank within five minutes m seven fathoms of water. Hercrewtookto the rigging from whence they were rescued by the lolanteh's boati and the Customs launch. The night was dark and squally. The Cape Verde was at anchor at the time, and the shock of the collision was terrific. The lolanthe's helm had been starboarded to clear another vessel and bad then been put to port to pass the Cape Verde, but she failed to answer to her helm quickly enough. The lolambe has not sustained any damage.
