ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
4 MR D. THOMAS. Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson Cox and Co), reports upon the Live Stock Market for the Ashburton district, for the week ending June lßth, as follows :— On Tuesday at the Tinwald Yards, I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigs, There was a large entry of sheep owing to the clearance of Mr Coster's estate, and a great number of the public came from br th north and south, and considering the conditions under which the sheep had to be sold, satisfactory prices were obtained. The total entry for the day comprised 16748 sheep, and 60 head cattle and 17 pigs, of which I sold 161 1 sheep and 51 head ot cattle at the following prices :— Fat merino ewes, 6s ; crossbred ewes, us gd to 14s 3d; a line of turnip sheep, 12s 3d ; full mouth merino ewes, 5s ; crossbred lambs, 7s yd to gs. In cattle — good forward steers, £4 5 8 to £Si heifers, ,£3 7s 6d to £3 15s.
