The " Spectator " m referring to Mr Dillons explanation re the funds of the National League, says it entirely overthrows the contention of the Painellite party, that the movement is conducted solely on constitutional lines. It asserts that the League is unable to obtain funds m England without explaining for what purpose they are expended. It adds that the delegates, therefore, prefer Australia and America as a field of collecting subscriptions, as m those countries no questions are asked. Sydney, Juae 16. Mr Deasy, one of ..the Irish delegates, recently accused the postal authorities of tampering with valuable letters addressed to him. The Government made strict enquiries,,, but the matter was involved m mystery. It has now transpired that the. mission of Mr Deasy was. one m connection with matrimony as well as politics, and that the mother of the lady to whom he was engaged viewed the match with some degree of mistrust. She admits having opened letters addressed to her daughter, and thus exonerating the officials.
