THE CALLIOPE'S ACHIEVEMENT.
The Right Hon. Mr Goschen speaking at Sheffield, referred m glowing terms to the splendid achievement of Captain Kane, and the officers and men of H.M.S. Calliope m bringing the vessel safely out of the dangers of the recent hurricane at Samoa. The incident, said the Chancellor of the Exchequer, was a monument of the splendid seaman* ship, nerve, and perfection which was characteristic of the British Navy.
