Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson Chx and Co,) reports npon the livestock m*rk»t fir the Ashbnrton district for the week ending May 21st, as follows :— On Tuesday ai the Tlnwald yard I held my usual week? e«lc of ahesp, cattl» and pigs. Tbo total ontry for the day was 3643 sheep, 41 pigs and 24 oattle, of which I sold 2242 ehet p, 41 piss and 15 oattle. Ths attendance »mi. small one and the blddtng *•• m>t *■> farltk as might have been expeotad, m ■heap the entry was mostly comprised of merino ewesahd wethers of poor oonditloo, only one lioe of really good ewes, be Ing penned, th« balance going to the boiling down establishment*. I told fat merino ewes from 4i 3 1 to 5« 6d ; »tore m*t lnos for boilers 2i 5d to 3» ; fat croeibred wethers 12s ; store do. 9i 41 ; orrmsbred ewes In poor condition 4i 10 7s Si 5 onll lambs 3s 6d. In pigs, b»conert 43a to 47» 61 ; porkers 31» 6d. In oattle, light weight steers £2 18* to £3 15i; mixed oittle3ss.
