Toe Committee np till • few days ago had every reason to believe a satisfactory agreement would have been arrived at, bat at the hot moment were disappointed, and they now consider that the solution He* m arousing the pablto oonßo>enoe. The Investigations of the Committee bfre led to a great increase In prices, indeed, m one case the price* now paid far exceed anything that might be expected, bat all effort ■ to arrange a tariff have failed, and the Committee felt that «s toon as publle attention oeased to be direoted to the matter affairs would revert to the former condition.
