The New South Wales branch of the London Missionary Society is appealing for subscriptions m aid of the t<aiho»ns, who are said to be on the verge of a famine. Information from Apia states that all the schools there have been closed, m order to allow students to seek a livelihood; and one letter Bays] the natives are on the eve of a bad famine. The Society will require a sum of £500 to tide over the emergency. Bebxjn, May 10. The " Allegemeine Zeitung" m an article on Samoan affairs, suggests that America should abandon Pagopago Harbor, and convert Suwarrow Island, on which the British flag was recently hoisted, into a ooaling station. The paper declares that the Samoan Conference is arranging for the appointment of advisers to the King of Samoa, to represent each Power, the term of office for each to be one year. Berlin, May 12.
