ASHBURTON CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

The annual general meeting of the Ash- . barton Caledonian Society was held on \ Saturday evening. There was a Urge attend anoe and Mt M. Stltt oooupied the chair. REPORT AND BALAVOK SHEET. The Directors' roy^rt was read as follows : — The Directors have much pleasure (n laying before you the tenth annual report and balance sheet for the year just closed, and considering the '-amount n£ liabilities banded to them with no available assets, jaaat congratulate themselves and tbe members generally for the hearty manner fn whioh they responded so liberally m subscribing to tbe funds of the Society. We aiso held a oonoart on Boxing night, but owing to the sb >rt notice m getting it up we regret to ssy it w«fl not bo anooeesf nl as your directors would have liked, although no loss was Incurred thereby. We would strongly recommend that some effort be made to make the summer concert as well as the annual one as brilliant and successful as In former years. Your Directors have pleasure m handing over the affairs of the Society to their suoeearfbrs free from debt with the exception of the mortgage on the sports ground, whioh we would recommend the Sooiety to jreallae upon at an early date, as we believe a more suitable ground aould be obtained nearer town than the present sports ground. Anderson ; Hon Seoretary,' Mr J Scaly ; Auditors, Messrs A. H, Shcry, and R. Minnls. Me A, MoKSy was eleoted piper to the Sooiety. THE SOCIETY'S GROUND After discussion a motion was otrrled that If possible the Siolety's ground on the IS or i h East Belt be disposed of , with a view- to obtaining a . more suitable grouod nearer town. A eommittea consisting of Messrs D. Williamson, M. Stitt,. W. Anderson, and J. Trsoker was appointed to give effaot to the resolution. INGLIBIDBS. It was resolved that four Ingleslde gatherings should be held dating the oomlrig winter. COMPLIMENTARY. A hearty vote of thanka <ru paised to the officials at the sports gathering on. Boxing day. .
