THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT.

TO THE KDITOR. Siß,— Having honnod tbe Blae Ribbon at H.o Oddfe lowa' Hall on Saturday night last, I Bin at a lona to know, if there Is auoh a body bi a Blue Ribbon Array listing iv Aahbnctou or not. If there is snoh a body tn existence 1 think thers> mast bo a considerable amount of apathy atlaobed to it. I hnve been m Ashburton over two yearß and I have oertalnly not | hu*td of enoti a body. It is my opinion [that all Sooletlea conneoted with the temperance qaeatlon should make themselves known, and well known too. I Before I left Ohrlatohurob — over two yoars ago—there were regular pnbllo entertainments given m a pretty large hall near the cathedral by the Blue Ribbon Army, and th)3e entertainments were well got up, and well attended too. It is something of this Bert we want m Aahburton, something iotereating and omaalng to draw the people together, As I onoe heard Canon Stanford Bay m one of hia sermons at tbe ostbedral, Ghristohurob, what we waut iv out ouurohea is good mußlo and good singing to draw the people into them, then when yon have yot them there you can talk to them; so I say with regard to temperance Booletie?, give publlo entertainments, and mako them auffialently Interesting to draw the erring onos inside your doors, then, when yon have got them, you can talk to thorn, ThU temperanco question wants continually Bgitathig, the ball must be kept rolling to bu abla to show some good effects. It Is one of the most burning questions of the day, and it reqalres the wnole of our available strength to be kept m motion to quanoh this most pressing evil, therefore for any temperance society to do any good It must make Itself known and keep on agitating to the end of the ohipier. Your inserting tbe above request for information, will, perhaps, be the means of putting a little more energy into the members of the temperaooe and other kindred societies of AohburtOD.— I am eto, Roll On.
