LoMDOsr, Hay 8. Mr ParnelPs cross-examination wag continued before the Commission to-day. He agreed to produce'his Secretary's! Mr Campbell, shorthand notes of letters dictated to him. Sir R. Webster stated that witness's cheques showed payments had been made to MoGaffery and Curley, Invincibles, and other suspects confined m Kilmainham gaol. Mr Parnell explained these payments were .made before the suspeots were charged with any offence, and rebuked his counsel, Sir 0« Russell, for not seeing that all documents bearing on the point were produced. Further cross-examination wae adjourned until these documenta oonld be obtained.
Archbishop Walshjwas then oalled, ani deposed that the Irish bishops now encouraged their olergy to assume a responsible position m 'the League. He considerod the Land and National Leagues were a defensive necessity. The Attorney General objected to witness giving hia opinion to the effect tbat the League had caused reduotion m crime, and Sir Jas. Hannen, President of the Commission, ruled tHat an abstract question as to the working of the League was inadmisßable, and facts only mnst be stated.
