ASHBORTON HOUNDS

Tbe Aehbarton hounds met at tffaterton (Mr Andrew Dawson'e) on tbe 25 h April* Only one hire was found during the day, and was loot after a short ran* A strong nor-wester blew all the time. Tbe Elgin meet of May Ist was also, spoiled by the wea'her, the ner'-weet wind being very strong, pwt of the time. Three abort rant were enjoyed by a. field of abont thirty horsemen. The bounds threw up their hoods each time on plou -\ At the meet at Methven on tbe 7ih iubt the throw«off took plaoo near the township. Several paddocks were drawn without saooess, bat pass was at last found and gave a most eojoyible run of about 25 mlnatei beforp aha vraa killed. An >ther short run wbloh ended by pass being lost iv the plough brought the morning to • alone, aa adjournment being then mads to Miura Alington and B>wyer's where justloe was done to » good lanoh by some twenty persons. In the afternoon a small plants* tlon w«s beaten and prodaced one bare, which was chopped before she left it. Another part of th 9 property wai tried with better saooeas, a fine hare being sent away. Thla one gave the hounds a lot of trouble, apparently knowing the "lay" of the oountry remarkably' well, and It took 45 minutes to run her down. This ended the day's sport. Everyone seemed very sttiafied at'%tbe way the hounds worked and were bandied by Mr E, Baanders. The scent hsld fairly well con* aiderlog tb^e dryoess of the ground. Altogether it w»B a nnicndid d«y'« sport.
