THE RACES

The Autums Meeting of the Ashburton Raolng Club begins to-morrow, and there is every prospect of its being the moat successful race meeting ever held here. I! nusually large entries were received for every race, and except m the Autumn Handicap, the owners have almost unanimously shown their approval of tbe handicaps. The course le m good condition, and evory care has been taken to provide for the convenience and comfort of spectators and horses. Raoing begins at half-past 12 with the Hurdle Race, for which there are eight horses on the card. Old Quibble has bern running so consistently on the West Ooast tbat he must have a good chance here, and Escapide and Alpine Rose may be his olosest attendants as the finish. The big field of seventeen is down for the Novel Race, and the winner will probably oome from Fickle, Oymaro an I Prima Donna. Tbe District Welter Handioap, with thirteen horses on the card, should suit Little Arthur, and he may meet most opposition from Squib and Waireka. The day's programme ends with the Flying Handioap which should be won by Esoapadb or Rewi, with Red Ensign and Sir Julius next. All the races are very open, and an exoitiog day's sport may be anticipated. Ihe Ashbnrton Band will play on the lawn, and the varioua refreshment boathe have been entrusted to competent caterers.
