At a meeting oi the Hospital Trustees to-day the Ohairman pointed out with reference to the Mayor's statements as to the extravagance of Hospital management, that living was muoh dearer than m other places. For oggj and milk atone £400 more had to be paid then lv Danedin for the same quantity. Tbe diet was perhaps a little more liberal than elsewhere but they could not Interfere with doctors' prescriptions. Wellington Hospital was notoriously one of the best In the colony, and ln several respeots its management was about to be imitated by other hospitals. Io consequence of the number of infants who are being left at the children's ward, there is some apprehension of the place being turned into a baby farm. In one Instance a mother resolutely refused to take back her ohild at all. To meat tbe emergency the Trustees have paaßed a resolution refusing to admit ohildren under three, exoept for surgical cases or Infectious diseases.
Hokitika, May 7. August Olsen, a miner, living by himself ln a lonely portion of the Totara district, was found dead ln bis hut. It appeared he had sustained severe Injuries at his ola'm or water-race, and crawled to his hut, where he died. Ihe body was very muoh decomposed when found. At the Inquest regarding the coach acoldent at Sandy's Hill, by whioh one man was killed and others severely lujired, the decision w»s that no blame was attached to the driver or proprietor.
