Sydnky, May 4 A double murder and suicide is reported from Pyrraonr, one of the city suburbs. A commercial traveller, named John Manahan, took a revolver and shot his wife, aged twenty-one years, thtice through the head, and his child, aged three years, once, the injuries inflicted proving fatal m §ach pas§. Managhan then committed suicide. The cause of the deed is attrU buted to domestic infelicity.
Sydney, May 5. In the course of an interview yesterday, Mr Quong Tart, the well-known Chinese merchant, said that the returned Chinese emigrants suffered destitution, and he appealed to their countrymen for sympathy and assistance. He said, m referring to his visit to China, that the stories of the imprisonment of shifjsi carrying Chjnese to Sydney, ha<J influenced fte popular anger of all Chinamen, and this, sentiment was smouldering ready to break out a| any foment irj a manner unpleasant to English residents, part ticularly those m the employ of the Chinese Government. Mr Quong Tart asserts that had it not been for the mandarins there would be something approaching open revolt m China, but these gentlemen had kept the people quiet by stating that the English Gov* ernment would suppress the policy of the colonial Governments regarding the Chinese.
