DISQUIETING BUMORS.
BETUBNING GOOD FOR EVIL. (FSB FBESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, April 29. The " Star " correspondent at Apia writes stating that very disquieting rumors are afloat to the effect that a large German foroe will arrive there m a fortnight or three weeks to renew hostilities against Mataafa. It is generally believed that, despite the Oonf erenoe, Germany is determined to wreak a bloody revenge on Mataafa for the death of German officers and men at the dose of last year. Mate*** is evidently on the alert, for the warriors who had returned to their homes m Bavaii have been summoned. In view of these rumors the non-withdrawal of the declaration of Germany has a dasp and sinister •xgnificanee. There is considerable sickness amongst th tailors on shore. Dysentery is very oommon, and about 50 are at present suffering from it. The appointment of Hen Steubel is regarded as an indication that Germany intends to resume the high-handed and violent oonduct whioh created such consternation some time ago. Only a small German foroe is left behind, and as the declaration of war against Mataafa has not been withdrawn, that ohief might, if be chose, make matters very awkward for the Germans hen*, and be striotly within his rights v • belligerent. However, it is morally •ertain he will return good for evil. The total German foroe ia 70 marines and foot offions.
