Aooording to a letter reaently reoeived from the south west ooast of Africa, Mr J, J. Jonea. a trader at Ngove (a country situated imme. diately touth of Gamma and the river Fernand Vaz) has for some time past had m his possession a young female gorilla whose docility and traotability are most remarkable. Mr Jones had trained the little anthropoid to follow him like a dog, and ahc recently aooompanied him on a journey to Setta* Gamma, a distance of twenty miles or more, walking all the way. Jeannie, as the baby gorilla has bean named, sleeps with her master and follows him wherever he goes, weeping like a ohild if left behind. She hai acquired many civilised tastes and habits, and will drink tea, ale, brandy, eto., out of a oup or glass, displacing the utmost carefulness not to break the vessel ; and will, m faot, do almost anything her master wishes, and is so intelligent and affectionate as to greatly astonish and interest all who have seen her.
