The " New Zoaland Herald " is responsible for the following aooount of what took place' m the Cabinet over the appointment of a Buooessor to the late Mr Justice Johnston ;— !' There was & sharp division of the Cabinet m regard to the appointment ot a Judge to suooeed Mr Jusfioe Johnston. Sir EredorioS T^hitaker, who, by virtue of his office, ought to have had the largest say m the matter, desired to appoint Mr Connolly, who held the office of Attorney-General and Minister of Justice m the Atkinson Ministry of 1883, while Mr Eisher and others held that the elaimabf Mr Ward were paramount.'
