Sir, — I have read In your columns of the 11th lust, of Mr Brown's leotore. I am not acquainted with tbe original language of tbe New Testament ; bat it has been my privilege to ba acquainted with those who are, and who state that the oorreot rendering of the text, (, By which alio he went and preaohed to the spirits In prison,'' i Peter, n chap 19 ver ia tbe following : "The spirit of Christ In Noah preaohed to the spirits, who are now In prison." When Ohrlst descended Into Hell. He i descended Into Hades — tbe grave. Salvation is for man, not for fallen angels, so to what parpoee would it have been to preaoh to them. No person who had studied the Holy Writ, by the light of the Spirit of God, already referred to, could agree with Mr Brown m stating that the thief did not enter Paradise on. tbe day of his death, when read m the light of suoh Scripture as the following : — The great apostle Paul m ii Oor. 5. ohap 8 ver states, "Absent from the body, present with the Lord," and he also says a For me to live Is Christ, to die is gain."
