THE IMPERIAL BUDGET.

Right Hon. Mr Goschen, Chancellor of the Exchequer, delivered his Financial Statement m the House Qf Commons to-night. He makes new demands for the coming year to the extent of comprising aid to local taxation and increases m the Army and Navy Estimates, The ' expenditure last year was below the estimates, and the revenue above it.
The estimated expenditure for next year is .^86,967,000, and the estimated revenue
He proposes to apply ;£i,oco,ooo of the profits of the conversion of consols towards the deficiency, and ,£500,000 from the same source to the reduction of the national debt.
Eight hundred thousand pounds is to be raised during the current year, and j£i,900,000 next year by the imposition of a per cent, additional death dqty on estates over ;£io,ooo; will also be raised by increasing the beer tax one-fifteenth of a penny, leaying 5 margin 0/^82,000:. Ht Gosqhen said he desired to deal with the whole question of death dues but was afraid it would occupy all the Session. He hoped to deal with the gold currency m a separate measure.
