THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
Tbe route which the Directors of the Midland Railway Company have ordered to be surveyed is that which runs from Springfield over Arthur's Paan, orosses the Teremakau river at Jaokson's ; and goes by Like Bronnar to BrnnnerlOD. The total distance is ninety-five rallei, but olne miles'of lino od It — from Gruymooth towards the Teremakau— are a'raady oompleted, leaving soms eighty-six mllea to be ODnatrncted. Tee route was surveyed, bat moro ronghly than fs required for tbe purpose of sc vi! oontitmoiioa, by Mr Napier Btll when the question of niternative routes for the railway was being determined.
Arrangements are now being rmde for at ouce beginning the survey of a section from SprlngQ Id to the West Ooast, bo as to allow of tender* being called for a portion of the line oottiog from £60,000 to £100,000. Some very heavy work will be Included In this section, comprising two bridges over the Kuwai, one ever the Broken River, an expensive vladnot ovgr Patterson's Oieok, as well as the noted StAiroase Gully, whioh will have to be bridged. Mr Napier Bell is already taking measures for the survey, and as soon as possible after it is finished the contract f>r conatrnotlon will be let.— "Lyttletcn Times. 11 .
