THE EXPKESS TRAIN

PROPOSED ALTERATIONS

SOUIH EXPHLB3 Leave Ohr'stohuroa at 11 a.m. Leave Aahburton at 12 50 p.m. Leave T:maru at 3 3 p.m. Arrive at Dunedin at 8.45 p.m. NORTH EXPRESS. Leave Danadid-at 11 a.m. L9avo Timaru at 5 6 p no. Laave Asbbucton at 6 55 p no. Arrive at Ohriotcharoh at 8 50 p.m. The advantages of the osw' arrangement are obvious, la the first pl*ae, everyone will find It more convenient to catch a train at 11 a.m than one leaving at the early hour of eight. Aga'n, parson* visiting either Ohclstoharoh or Daaedln on business will be able, m many Instances, to do m two days what now oooDpiea three, as they will have a oouple of hoars m the forenoon m which to transact their baalneas before leaving for homo. A third advantage will be that passengers by the «; camera arriving at Lyttelton from the North m the morning will be able to take the train for the South, which at present they cannot do. In order to meet the convenience c travellers to and from the stations to whioh the express is not to stop, some alterations are to be made m the hours of the ordinary trains. The line between Obrlstohuroh and Timaru is to be divided into two sections, viz,, Ohriatohuroh t-j A-shburton and Asbburton to Timaru. On the OhrUt church- Ashburton sec tion, a train will run as follows :— • Leave Ohriatohuroh at 7*25 a.m. Arrive Ashburton at 10 50 a.m, Leave Asbburton at 3,40 p m, Arrive Ohrlstohurch 7 p.m. The 1,15 p.m. train, Ohrlstohuroh to AshbartoD, will not run. On the Timara-Ashburton seotion trains will run aa follows : — *

L9ave Timaru at 730 a.m. and tvfelve noon, the latter on Monday, WednetcUy and Saturday only. Arrive Aahburton at 10 40 a.m. and 3 20 p.m.

Leave Ashburton at 11,10 a.m. and 140 p.m., the latter Monday, Wednesday and Saturday only. Arrive Tlmaru at 2.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The 4 45 p.m. train will not run. These trains will stop at Intermediate stations, and, it will ba eeen, passenger* by them will be able to catch either the North or South express at Timaru icd Ashbnrtoa,--(" Lyttelton Times.")
