DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET
Mr Donald Stronach (for the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reportfc under date April 3 :— '! The total of thi* season's wheat arrived to date is 11.116 sookc. Millera are open* ting with caution, and with the exception of ono transaction of considerable magnitude the business done with them is merely from hand to mouth. Shippers, m the absence of direot order?, are not inclined to speculate at prices lately demanded* Last week* price! 1 , however, still continue lobe obtained, although it is doubtful, m the evont of heavier supplies ooming into the market, m the absence of a brisker demand for shipment, which is hardly l.kely to set m at present considering the aspect of the Home market, also the heavy slocks available m California, if it will be possible to prevent prices from receding. Inferior and fowls' wheat is very reirca and worth nearly aa much as fair milling. Quotations are— for belt milling, velvety and Tmoan, 4s 6dto 4a 7£d ; medium to good, 4s to 4* 3d ; inferior to medium, 3s 4d to 3s lOd (ex store). —Oats : The wet weatbV at the beginning of last week hindered deliveries considerably, and with a very satiitaotory demand both on the part of millers and shippers prices have remained firm ; but during the last few days consignments are assuming larger dimensions, and it is quite evident that if growers inßist upon making immediate aales without reserve prices are almost sure to rccade. Qiotatioss are : Fot prime short iniUng, 2-» 7£d to 2i 81 : best short feed 2« 6d to 2s 7d, medium to good 2b fid to 2* 6d (ex store) Barley*. The market still continues flat, and only oooasional transsc'ions passing. Quotations for best malting 3s 9d to is, medians 3s 3d to 3s Gd (ex store).
