Mr Edward Wakefl.ld of the Wellington "Press," Intends to proceed to England shortly to float a literary venture upon which he has been engaged for some time past In partnership with Count Jouffeay d'Abbans, the French VtoeConßol In Wellington. It Is understood Mr Wakefield will be absent only for a period within five monthi. The sabjeot of the book Is tbe early history of New Z.aland, tbe materials for whioh are of great value »and abundance, and derived principally from the correspondence of tbe early Frenoh missionaries to New Zealand. Thia source of Information aa to the early history of the oolony has never yet been explored. Between the years 1830 and 1850 the documents published undor tbe college of the Propaganda and Its affiliated societies m nearly every European capital, teem with most carious and interesting details of tbe missionary labors of tbe Frenoh fathersa The proposed work is to be printed In English and Feeccb, Count d'Abbans being responsible for tbe French text, and Mr Wakefield for the Eogllsh. Tbe Frenoh Government will take fifty thousand ooplea, and an American publishing firm will pnblish the book. The whole enterprise oarries with It a good deal of attractiveness, and doubtless will be sucoeßßful. — (Napier ••Telegraph.")
