The lt Lytteltnn Times " has been favored with the following extract from a private letter, dated Apta, March 4 : —

There is not muoh new la oar politics since my letter of Jauuary. The Mataafa party was aY oat ready to yield to the proposals of the German Consul, but suddenly the natives bioked out again when some mlachtevons Americans tod them to wait for the Amesjonn Admiral, who would come with six war ships and 600.000doJfl to help them against the Germans, and buy them out and drive them away. Tho natives weie foolUh enough to believe thtt they would get the money, and also the rest of the tale. Now of course, after .hearing the troth, they di not trust tbe Amerioans muoh more. We are all waiting now for the German eqandron and the result of the Confererce at Berlin. I only wish that the Samoaa question could ba settled booo, because the tronbU detains all business very muoh The natives keep quiet at present and do not molest the town at all, There Is alto no fighting between the two partlea, botb remaining la their respective forts Mataafa'e people are doing their best to destroy tbe German plantations*

The other day I drove up to the Vallele plantation, and saw the place where the fight with the German marines bad takvn plaoe. The new hooßa of tbe Manager was really perforated by the bullets. I shall hope to report that we are still quiet Io my next, etc.

In a footnote to the foregoing oar cmtemporary remarks : — *' The letter from whloh the above Is taken oame, we understand, with a German twenty pfennig stamp —a olroumstanoe whloh considering there is a an authorised Samoan postage, Is significant enough to require explanation."
