The racing opened with the Maiden Stakes, for which Churchill was at first a hot favorite, at one time touching 7 to 4 on, bnt Lady Agnes' friends came to the rescue, and from 4 to 1 she advanced qalokly to 7 to 1. Sluggard jumped very slovenly right through tbe JJprdle Race, floundering terribly at tha last hurdle, but his snperlor paoe enabled him to loors an easy vlo'ory at the finish.
