AROUSED AT LAST.
Some years ago the Government of New South Wales, m return for the Admiralty banding over the Ordinance Reserve at Sydney, undertook certain work at Garden Island, m view of securing the headquarters of the Navy m Australian waters for Sydney. During the past two years operations have ceased at Garden Island, and great inconvenience has been caused to the navy m consequence. Admiral Fairfax repeatedly wrote to the Premier, but without avail, and now he has written to the Governor, Lord Carrington, stating that he feels strongly disposed to recommend the Admiralty to arrange headquarters for the navy m one of the other colonies. This has had the desired effect upon the Government, who issued orders to resume work at Garden Island to-day. .
