Misa Sophie Preston, aged about thirty, a missionary to China, waa recently killed In an uprising of natives. Miss Fabian, an English Catholic lady, recently passed through New York on her way to Molokai Island of the Sandwich Group, aa a volunteer nurse to the lepers there. The bodies of Madame lima de Murska and her daughter were cremated at Gotha on January 19. The urn containing De Murska's remains was insorlbed " these •shea are all that remains of a nightingale." A new Senate Bill to regulate the tevenue will be reported to the House of Representatives about Tuesday, February 12. It has been prepared by the Republicans ai a substitute for Mills' Bill, whioh failed to pass last fall. The present Bill makes but a slight reduction m the revenue. Increased rates on wools and woollens and earthenware, and on nearly every artlole whioh enters Into the manufacture of the necessities of life, are its features. There is a reduction of about 28,000,000d01s on sugar, wbioh Is made up to the sugar growers by a bounty to be 'paid dlreotly from the Federal Treasnry. Police-Inspector Martin was killed at Gweedore, County Donegal, on Feb 3, while trying to arrest Father M'Fadden. A party of police under Martin surrounded M'Fadden' a chapel during morning service and when the priest appeared at tbe door, made a rush for him. People oame to the tesoue and the priest esoaped^ He had nearly reaohed the door of bis house when Martin caught him by the ooat, receiving at the same time a stone on the baok of bir head. The blow felled blm, and ba died shortly afterwards. M'Fadden was subsequently arrested, and put Into gaol fn Londonderry. Five persons aoooied of Martin's murder were brought into Dublin voder a strong escort of police on Feb. 9. They were vigoroasly cheered by tbe populace on their arrival.
