On Thursday a tremendous ga'e Bpraog up about noon, and blew with unabated violence until enenlng, when it gradually died away. A vast amount of damage rouet have been done to any grain that was ripe and unout; In one Instance a newly-built stock was blown over, and stooks were thrown down m all directions , In {ha Hakateratnea valley the gale was very keenly felt, and a few crops that were standing were almost threshed ont. In one instance, In a crop of 150 acres cf oatc, a farmer estimated his loss at £200. Most of the grain In this district la now cat, and carting m has oommenoed, and In about a fortnight, if tbe weather holds good, tbe most of the grain 'shou'd be In § taqk, Around the Wathao and Wattakl districts nearly all tf § harvesting Is done, with the exception of a few late crops, and tbe grain has been stacked m splendid condition. Farmers are beginning to reallaethat treahlog from the atook is a. mistake, and In only one or two oases has it been done this year.
