CORN EXCHANGE
The following is the Corn Exchange Report for the week ending Friday, Mnrchlst, 1889:—'? Perfeot harvest weather continues and thresh inp; operations are becoming general. Numerous samples are being offered, but buaitiGßß up io the present has been much restricted, owing to the objootion of buyers to { purohase stookj threshed grain, millers and maltsters being particularly averse to operating. The grain now coming to hand (thanks to the harvest weather of the past few days) ia m much better condition than earlier ! samples. Freight accommodation ia more ' plentiful, 30s to London being full rates. Intercolonial business is rather restricted, no doubt owing to the anxiety of their looal farmers wishing to realise while prioeß are good. Freight, however, are becoming more m favor of shippers. Wheat. — Last week's prices have not been maintained. Tuscan cannot to-day be quoted at more than Ss 4d to 83 sd, and Hunter's and pearl at 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; second quality is dull at 3a to 3s Id ; and broken ohioken wheat at 2s 3d to 2a 6d. OjlTB, like wheat, have e&3ed ofl and to-day 2s 8d ia the top price for short feed ; milling are worth 2s 4d to 2a sd. Barley. — Buyers are holding aloof until the barley has been staoked, and at present it is difficult to plaoe prime over 3s 4d to 3s 6d ; feed ia very quiet at 2a 3d. Beans are not offering. Peas. — Blue peaa have a good demand at 3s 6d fox hand threshed, and 3s to 3a 3d for maohine dressed. ! Gbass Seed. — A, strong demand still exists, but few lines are coming to band, 3a 6d to 3a 9d is being given for maohine dressed, and 2s 6d to 2s 9d for farmers' parcels. Cocksfoot. — Market has opened 2Jd to 2f d for good ! ordinary seed, while 3d is given for extra prime heavy seed. Dairy Produck. — Butter is dull at 6d to 7d, but stocks are not large. 1 Cheese is quiet at 3d for small loaf and 4d to 4£d for large and medium. The above prices are those paid to farmera for delivery f.o.b. Saoks extra.
