CORN EXCHANGE

The following is the Corn Exchange Report for the week ending Friday, February 22nd, 1889 :—

Considerable quantities of grain are now being offered, and prices between buyers and sellers are becoming more Bottled. Some of the grain is not coxing to hand m the beat condition ; oartalnly more care should be taken otherwise there Is sure to be unpleasantness at settlements. English oablee have been reassaring m tone, aod should freights be easily avai able we shall expeot to see present prices maintained. The Australian markets have a downward tendency, California having sent considerable shipments which has had the effect of weakening their demand for New Zealand produce.

Wheat. — Piime Tuscan can be placed at 3a 6d, and Hunter's and Pearl at from 3s 3d to 3s 4d ; scoond qaality is m fair supply at 3d. Oats — \ cood business has been done during the week, and good feed wore placed at 2s 4d at the early part of the week, but are now rather weaker at 2s 3d. Long descriptions are selling at 2s. Barley.— The quality varies rery muoh, primo Hiight malting commanding up to 4', while second quality is hard to quit at 3i6d.

Grass Seed — Retail lines are moving off nlowly at 33 6d to 3s 9d for machine dre?aed, and farmers' parools have a strong demand at 2s 6d to 2s 9d. Cocksfoot quiet at 2Jd to 3d for good seed.

Pa as.— Prussian Blues have been sold at 3a 6d for prime; mixed samples are dull "BX3*; — BcanrwirofEeilrig. Dairy Produce.— Butter has again been well oleared out by London ship ments, but the prices remain very low, 7d being tho top value. Second quality is dull at 4d. Cheore, varies from 4d to sd, according to rza and quality. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.o.b. Sacks extra.
