WimHOTON, February 20. A meeting of the Executive of the United Fire Brigades Association wis held to-day. The following officers were pre■•at :— President, E. Smith, Chris-church; Vioe-Pr'sldents, R. A. Page (Wellington), and Q. F. Scott (Asbburton) ; Secretary, J. G. Gllbnrt (Naple>). An invitation from the Nelson Fire Brigade to hold the •onferenee In thatcUy was duly considered by the Executive and it w*« deotded by them that m consequence of the financial position of the Association It was thought desirable to postpone the conference until next year, as the expenses attending the Visit of delegates to Nelson would absorb the whole of th« funds under tha control of the Association. It has been intimated that several invitations are likely to be received from large centres for holding the next demonstration, Tt was also resolved that Government be petitioned to replace on the estimates the sum of £250 bs subsidy to the Association for the further moo of the efficiency of the Fire Brigades of New Zealand. The fund collected In aid of the family of McOutaheon, of South Daoedln, the fireman who lost his life In endeavoring to resoue a lady from drown* Ing at Ocean Beach, has been liberally •übscrlbeJ to, the amount already collected being £90 10s. The question as to the plaoe of the next demonstration is under diiouislon. Wmjjwgtom, February 21.
