FIRE ON THE KAIKOURA.

(Per P&bss Association.) Ghri&tohuroh, February 18. A fire broke out on the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Kaikoura last night. An examination which was made to-d^y f howß that the fir* was confined exolusively to the coal bunker under the second saloon. This belog iron through out sustained no damage whatever, tne only loss being a quantity of coal which wae destroyed. The combustion of the ooal was due to the asbestos felting used for paokiog the steam pipes passing through the ooal being worn off, thereby bringing the pipe and the coal into oontr st. As the refrigerators continued working it was kept m perfect condition and now the vessel is quite restored to. her former appearanoe.
