THE SAMOAN QUESTION
(PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, February 14. The s.s. Lubeck has arrived from the Islands with Samo&n dates to February 6th. The various Consuls were anxiously awaiting definite instructions. Klein has been compelled to go on board the American man-of-war Nipsic for safety. the German seamen wounded m the fight with Ma'taafa are progressing favorably. All vessels belonging to Samoans, and also the police, have been placed under German control. Mataafa has been strengthen ing bis position, and forming paths through the bush to enable supplies to be easily obtained. Tbe German authorities have recalled Brandus. (? Dr Knapp,) (Reoelved F.bruaty 15, 1 30 p.m.) Sydney, Februaiy 15. A rising at Tntuila is feared owing to the imprisonment ot some of the Mataafites by Tamasese. The latter's followers are rapidly reducing m numbers, and it is believed that unless Germany assists Tamasese, his followers will quietly retire to their homes without Mataafa firing a shot. The arrest has been made of a man alleged to have caused the recent fire m Apia by whioh damage to the extent of 100,000 dollars nas done.
