The " Lyttelton Times" hew the following obituary notice of the late member for Nelson . — The short} sturdy little figure of Heary Augustas Leveatam will b 9 much missed when the House meets again, and his voice will be mimed m debate, for both had been familiar to members siooe the memorable stonewalling days of 1881, In the session of that year, when Nelson was about to be deprived of a share of her representation by the Bill making some alteration m tbe electorates of this island, Mr Levestam bore a rery prominent part m the fray, speaking againat time with the rest of the band who were up m aims against what they held to be a rank injast oe. Mr Levestam was a Dane, and never did the plnck and dogged obstioacy of his race do a Dane better service than m thdSO long night watches when four or five members kept * whole sleepy, sick and weary House at bay, and the session was made remarkable for ever m Now Zsaland Parliamentary anmls by Sir Maurioe O'Rorke'fl display of the "iron hand " and tbe arrest of Mr Gisborne. The late member for Nelßon was, as ws have said, a Dane, He was the son of a physioian, born m 1888 a* Flensburg m Bchleßgig, and adopted the profession of engineer. It was as engineer on board the Lord Ashley, one of our old time intercolonial steamers that he oamo to the colony, and "settling" into married life m 1861 be made Nelson his home Politioe claimed a fair share of the mental energy with which Mr Leveetam was. by no means meagrely endowod, and twenty years after his arrival m Nelson he stood for the town seat, defeating the Bon. J. 0. Biohmond. Since that time he has continued to tit for Nelsoo, and has been fcoowo m the House for a useful, energetic number, and a man who was well '.Uked and lAspepted by his brother
