A • Wettland correspondent of the 11 Press " sends tbe following particulars of two remarkable phenomenal whioh transpired there reoently. He lays :— " On Sunday last, at midnight, I observed the falling of the largest meteor it hat been my lot to witness. The meteor m qneitlon appeared to be tbe sfia of tbe mooD, and it fell a mile or 10 from the vloinlty of Kelly Greek, and so great was its illuminating power that I obbld diatinotly perceive objects up the valley for • very considerable distance ; m faot one would have thought that a powerful eleotrio light had been brought Into requisition. Strange as this phenomenon Appeared, rsj ocourrenoe of a more startling nature happened on th*» following afternoon, (Peb- j ruary4.) From the direotlon of Mom ft j Howie, whlph is situated opposite 01 Donnell's scoommodatlon bouse, some fire miles distant from Kelly Greek, .* huge volume of blaok smoke borat forth, havtog every appearanoe of being emitted from a volcano. I might mention that at the time of the recent heavy earthquakes the mountains around here were very much shaken. It appears that I was not the only one who saw tbe peculiarity at Mount Howie, as Uta m the afternoon I enoountered two swaggers who were tramping it, and they were so muoh concerned at what they had seen that they made traoks back again to Hokltlka, fearing an I eruption.
