VICTORIA.
MaLßoußim, February 11. The case of McElhone v Australian Mutual Provident Society was dismissed by the Supreme Court In giving his decision the Judge said that the Society had a perfect right to set apart money to form a provident fund for its officers. , , Mr R. EJ. N. Twopeny returns to New Zealand, by the Wairarapa. His , visit to Australia has been satisfactory as far as concerns the British and Victorian exhibits for the Dunedin Exhibition. He failed, however, to obtain the Victorian loan collection of pictures» but Mr Deakin, Chief Secretary, has promised that Victoria should be officially represented. Mr Playford, Premier of South Australia, is doubtful whether a subsidy will be voted to the local Committee. Mr Twopeny; found nothing could be done at Sydneytill the elections are over. It is probable the Victorian Navy will be present at the opening ceremony, and the principal members of the Cabinet may also attend with a view to promoting a feeling m favor oi colonial federation m New Zealand, The appointment of M. Joubert as manager, hat given great satisfaction to British and Victorian exhibitors m consequence ot the large number of exhibits which have already been secured. The plans of the building* will, Mr Twopeny states, need enlargement.
