ASHBURTON VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE
The annual meetbg of members of the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the station, Burnett street, last evening. There was a good attendar.ee of members, and Mr W, B. Moas, 0.8.P., end some of the offioers of the Western Brigade were preßont by Invitation. An invitation bad also been lent to the Borough Councillors, but none of them put iv an appearance, though the Brigade waited for them for a considerable time. This apparent neglect appeared to be pretty keenly felr, the more so that the same thing happened last year. One of the prloolpal reasons the Brigade have m asking for tbe atteo^acoe of the Councillorn Is that the plant belongs to the Borough, and they think that it should be Inspected at least annually by some of the members of tbe Council, This latter body, doubtless, has every confidence m the Brigade, In their osre of the plant and appliances entrnsted to them, but still the firemeu cannot help to some i extent feeling hart that no Councillors should attend, or that no explanation : should be given. i After a short praotloe, the men assembled m their room for the annual meet- 1 Ing, at whioh Qnplaln Soott presided, i The balance gheet for the past year was i read and adopted, Oaptaln "Soott made a report on behalf of the ofiioers.
