HOW HE ELUDED THE POLICE [Pas Pares Assooiatxok.l LoMDONi, Januafty SO. Mr W. O'Brien addressed a meeting oon-Vened by Mr Jacob Bright, of Man. Chester, last night. He declared the French and Russian dynamiters Were offered more proteotion m Great Britain than Irish agitators. When the police pnt m an appearance the audience sought to prevent O'Brien's arrest and rushed arrest, and nished the platform] ; Eventually he was captured amidst a scene of violent excitement, Mr O'Brien has been sent to Dublin, He states that ..after escaping from tha Court at Carriok he drove ninety miles to Wexford, from which port he proceeded in' a collier to Porthcawl, County Glamorgan, then to the residenca of a priest at Brigend. From Brigend he proceeded by. train to Manchester to attend a meeting convened by Mr Jacob . Bright. Oh making his appearance on the platform- he was received with grea enthusiasm. Mr O'Brien boasted that he had passed through four counties swarming with police, and yet he had not been betrayed. He claimed sanctuary m England as a political refugee. His arrest was made m the ante-room of the hall, and the prisoner was escorted to gaol by 200 police, who were followed by several thousand people, While at the meeting Mr O'Brien passed through a wild scene of congratulations. ■ar -- London, January 31.
