Shortly »fter noon today the ship Rakala, wbloh Arrived early this morning from London, when being berthed along■lde the Gladstone pier, collided with No. 9 shed. The wind was blowing fresh from the eouth-weit and the tug towed the vessel jait imide the moles when she oast off, and the ship Bbaped her coarse for. the pier keeping hat way before a fresh brecza. When some dlatanoe. from the pier, the starboard anohor was dropped and the ohsin paid oat to check her way, bnt the anohor appeared not to take the mad and the vessel headed for the pier apparently Increasing her way all the time* In an Instant her jib-boom went Into No 9 railway shed. The spa* struck the shed jost on one of the large orosa befttns and pushed It several feet through the other side besides smashing the rafters and stays, and taking sheets of galvanised Iron before it like so many sheets of brown paper. Presently, the flying jibboom snapped off short. By this time the vassal's way had been considerably oheoked, but still she came with good force Into the wharf and outsome4 or 5 feet Into It, carrying away the bows atay-ohaln, and martingale stays. The electric light wires jfjiloh rnn over the top of the shed were also damaged; — Pi!«st-GalbTslth~wßi-in-oharge at the time of the accident, which must be attributed to the anohor not taking the mud when let go. Tha vessel was cleared from the shed and safely moored. The Rakala brings an 8-inoh 16 ton gun for Rips Island ; the pit to reoeive It Is already dug.
