THE SAMOAN QUESTION.
» (P*b Pbiss Assooiaixok.) Washington, January 28. The American Congress is decidedly bellicose, and it is intended to appoint • representative Committee to deal with Samoa and other foreign affairs. In the Senate to-day Mr Collum, after conversing with General Harrison, the President elect, stated that America hs.d not yielded m the position taken tip with regard to Saraoan affairs, and be thought that the Republican Govern- , ment would be able to satisfactorily adjust the difficulty. The feeling throughout the United •States with regard to the difficulty m Samoa is increasing daily, and the tfarai Committee are invitiog suggestions from Congress as to the best course to pursue. The House of Representativeslis ready to vote the sum necessary for the protection of American tights m tha islands. (Beoelved January 31, 12.30 p.m.) Wabbxkgtov, January 29. The American Senate has agreed to a Bill creating a Consul-General of the United States at Apia, m £amoa. Public opinion is rapidly crystallising against ■jtrhat is considered a project on the part of Germany to steal Samoa.
